Unstable Stream Updates: 26th Feb 2026

A sizeable update this week with updates across the board. Notable updates include:

- COSMIC DE 1.0.8
- GNOME 49.3/4 application updates
- KDE Frameworks 6.2.3
- KDE Plasma 6.6.1
- mangowc 0.12.2
- linux 6.8.13
- mesa 26.0.1

There have been a lot of package updates and new packages added this cycle all helping flesh AerynOS out into something more usable for our current testers.

Long time friend of the project, Fabio has rejoined the fold and has hit the ground running with a number of fixes and code refactors to moss and boulder with more in the pipeline.

AerynOS build infrastructure demo

Demonstration of our 4 builders churning through Plasma 6.6, visualised on our Summit dashboard.

We have and continue to build our tooling to make packaging and distro management as easy as possible. The infrastructure is flexible to add more builders as needed and these visualisation options help diagnose issues as they may arise.

AerynOS has landed KDE Plasma 6.6 in our Volatile repository.

So far, everything seems to be running nicely but we will keep it in our volatile repository for around a week whilst we do further testing.

Less than a month ago, I posted about AerynOS making it into the Distrowatch Top40.

Now, just less than a month later, we have managed to get into the Top30 and our hits per day are still increasing.

It's fair to say the Distrowatch ranking isn't an accurate sign of popularity in the sense of active users. All the distros around AerynOS in the rankings will dwarf us in actual installs.

What I do think this points to is that people are becoming increasingly aware of AerynOS and are interested in following along with our progress whilst we are on our journey in eventually delivering a robust and stable solution.

AerynOS Unstable Stream update: 11th February 2026

This week we have a sizable update landing in our unstable repository with updates to many of our DEs, updates to how boulder works to making life easier for our packagers, an additional installation option in lichen (to make setting up a custom Window Manager install easier), changes to our kernel scheduler, new packages and much more.

With all the new updates and specifically with the lichen installer update, we will likely land a new ISO much sooner than our usual cadence.

This week, we have also included links to our new Stripe donation options. Stripe will be the preferred method for receiving donations going forwards as it reduces the overall fees we are being charged (compared to Ko-Fi) by around 7% which is not insignificant!

@cozybuild@mastodon.social So we have the "terminal-only" option as a consideration for advanced users and server workloads but honestly, if something goes wrong, we can't accept any responsibility as when we say alpha, we really mean alpha!

Aside from that, I also wonder if we have all the packages one might need for common server use cases?

Do with that information what you will. We do believe that in time, the core tooling we are building will be very capable and flexible for a lot of different workloads.
